As the Bay Area limps toward a 700-bicycle regional bikeshare program at the cost of $7 million, some enterprising San Franciscans decided to make use of the abundant bicycles already circulating in the community, some functional, most in ill-repair, fix them up and liberate them for the benefit of all San Franciscans - for free.
Come down to [ freespace ] (1131 Mission St) any time between 10 am and 10 pm during the month of June to check out a yellow bike for free for up to two days. Bikes come complete with lights and a lock (and hopefully a helmet if we can source enough). The purpose of [ freespace ] as a whole and the Yellow Bike Library in particular is to exhibit the power that every day citizens have to positively impact their community and this city with just a little coordination and cooperation. We’re excited to improve access to bicycles for all San Franciscans and to help spread the simple joy that comes with riding a bike through our beautiful city.
Hacking for the good of all!
