Susan Curry, got to see her great nephew ride a bike for the first time this past weekend at the Kids’ Extravaganza. Howard, 4, traded in his training wheels for a vibrant yellow and black bike that matched his bright yellow shirt.
“Before today, Howard didn’t know how to ride a bike without training wheels,” Curry, the Recreational Specialist at The Tenderloin Children’s Playground, said. Howard went home, telling us he was going to “teach his sister how to ride without training wheels.”
Let’s just say that this weekend’s event was a major success, and Howard’s experience was the icing on the cake! We loved being part of Howard’s first riding experience!
We caught up with Curry to hear more about this experience with SF Yellow Bike on Saturday:
Describe how you feel today, watching your nephew ride around this playground:
SC: I am ecstatic!- (Susan jumps up and down) – look at him go! He hasn’t even cried!
What do you think that Yellow Bike’s greatest contribution is to this community?
SC: Yellow Bike is showing these kids how to be safe riding a bike. Getting them on bikes around the city allows them to get more in tune with San Francisco, which is huge.
How would you describe this event to people who couldn’t attend?
SC: Just so special and exciting- it is such a great thing to see all of these kids riding around, having fun and learning at the same time!
…can’t wait for the next event!
